Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, N.Y., has a variety of activities, including gondola rides and snowshoeing. It is also the home of the Olympic Museum, showcasing memorabilia and exhibits that highlight the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games, both of which were held in nearby Lake Placid. High Falls Gorge offers a scenic walk.

Lake Placid - Whiteface KOA Campground

The KOA has pull-thru and back-in sites. Super sites offer a 75-foot pull thru as well as 50-amp electric hookup, water, sewer, picnic table, cable television and a fire ring. With the pull-thru and back-in sites, 30-amp electric and water are standard. Sewer and cable hookups are optional. All sites offer free wireless Internet. The park is dog-friendly as long as your animal has proof of up-to-date shot records and registration. Dogs must be on a leash. Canoeing and kayaking are nearby on the Ausable River.

North Pole Resorts

The resort is at the base of Whiteface Mountain. Sites include 50-amp electric hookup, water and sewer. Internet access is available at an additional daily charge. The park offers boat and canoe rentals, swimming pools, game rooms, miniature golf, hiking and biking trails. Guests can visit Santa's Workshop, which is a short walk from the park.

Wilmington Notch Campsite

Wilmington Notch Campsite is on the Ausable River. Sites have electric, water and sewer hookup. Dogs are allowed with proof of registration and vaccines. There is white-water rafting and mountain biking less than 10 miles from the park. There is fishing on the Ausable River, but the rapids offer challenges for anglers.
