This Shreveport cruise is excellent for eco-tourists and travelers interested in learning about local ecology and history. Passengers can take in the sites from the observation deck or from inside the boat, which has plenty of windows.

Cruises depart on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from March 1 through Nov. 30 on the hour between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Private charters are available, weather permitting, but bookings must be made in advance.

Mississippi River Cruises

Climb aboard the Creole Queen for a dinner jazz cruise while visiting New Orleans. This paddlewheel boat offers dinner cruises several nights during the week in addition to Friday and Saturday nights. Dinner cruises board at 7 p.m., depart at 8 p.m., and return to port at 10 p.m.

Passengers may purchase tickets that do or do not include the Creole buffet. A cash bar is also available. This is a family-friendly cruise and children travel at a discounted rate.

New Orleans Steamboat Company

With the option of a two-hour harbor cruise or a dinner jazz cruise, the Steamboat Natchez is a popular medium for scoping out the mighty Mississippi. The cruise boards at the Toulouse Street Wharf in New Orleans at 6 p.m. and departs at 7, returning at 9 p.m.

An afternoon two-hour cruise boards at 2 p.m. daily, cruising from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. It is strongly recommended that travelers interested in a riverboat cruise abort the Steamboat Natchez call ahead to check on availability.
