Elk Rapids, Michigan is a small town set next to Elk Lake. The quaint shops and distinct restaurants dotting the main street provide quiet entertainment during a relaxing stroll. This area is ideal for campers looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy a retreat to sandy beaches and wooded hiking trails.

Honcho Rest Campground

The Honcho Rest Campground is located just five minutes northeast of downtown Elk Rapids. The campground is nestled between Elk Lake and Lake Michigan and is situated on the private Bass Lake. The 95 sites available here are all constructed on concrete, with yards and fire rings. Each site has a full hook up, cable television and Wi-Fi internet access. Campers can also elect to stay in one of the small, 14 by 14-foot cabins. Restroom and laundry facilities are located on site. Other amenities include a playground, dining pavilion with picnic tables, recreation area and fish cleaning station.

Timber Ridge

The Timber Ridge RV and Recreation Resort is less than 30 minutes south of Elk Rapids in Traverse City, Michigan. Visitors to the resort can camp in tents, RVs or cabins. Sites are available with water and electric only or full hook ups. Fifty-amp electric service can be obtained for an additional charge. Restrooms, showers, laundry facilities and a dump station are located on site. The propane filling station and camp store can help keep you supplied with necessities throughout your stay and the Goodie Shoppe serves up ice cream, pizza and nachos for a welcome change from traditional camping fare. Pets are welcome though there is a size restriction for dogs staying in the cabins.

Chain O Lakes

Chain O Lakes Campground is located east of Elk Rapids in Bellaire, Michigan. The campground is open from May 1 through October 31. Cabins and RV and tent sites are available. All are pull-through sites with full hookups. RV sites are have a concrete pad with a grass lawn and provide 50 -amp electric service. A free wireless broadband connection is available for all guests. Amenities include a pool, playground, camper's lounge and laundry facility. The on-site petting zoo is sure to delight children. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, free ice cream is provided on Friday nights and free popcorn is offered on Saturdays.
