Somerset, Kentucky, is the closest large town to Lake Cumberland, a major outdoors destination in southeastern Kentucky. In addition, less than 5 miles to the west of Somerset are the borders of Daniel Boone National Forest. For RV campers who like hiking, whitewater rafting, canoeing, fishing or nature watching, the RV camps, resorts and state parks around Somerset make for a central base to partake in the area's numerous outdoor activities.

Lake Cumberland RV Park

Lake Cumberland RV Park is the closest facility to Somerset, about 4 miles south of town and just minutes from the shores of Lake Cumberland. All of the park's RV sites have full hookups with up to 50-amp electricity. Pull-through and cable TV sites are available. The park is pet-friendly, and the features and facilities include an indoor swimming pool, golf driving range, paid Wi-Fi, coin laundry and bathhouse.

Indian Hills Resort (KOA)

The Indian Hills Resort is on the shores of Lake Cumberland, and has a mix of tent and RV camping, as well as one-bedroom cabins. The RV sites have full hookups with up to 50-amp electricity, and the largest sites are 55 feet long. Cable TV connections are available for an extra fee. The resort's features and facilities include miniature golf, an outdoor swimming pool, playground, basketball and shuffleboard courts, marina and boat ramp, coin laundry, TV room, hiking trails and free Wi-Fi.

Lake Cumberland State Resort Park

This Kentucky state park has a 146-site campground of mixed RV and tent camping. The RV sites have full hookups. The campground's showers and coin laundries are located in three separate service buildings, and there is also a camp store and dump station. Elsewhere on the resort is the Lure Lodge, which has free Wi-Fi, and the Rowena Landing Restaurant. The Lure Lodge also has an indoor swimming pool, hot tub and exercise room. In addition, the park has a boat ramp and marina with boat rentals, as well as hiking trails.

Corbin KOA

Located in the hometown of Kentucky Fried Chicken, the Corbin KOA is adjacent to Laurel Lake on the other side of Daniel Boone National Forest, but it is still only 15 miles from Somerset. Like most KOAs, the campground has tent and RV sites, as well as one and two-bedroom cabins. The RV sites have full hookups and free cable TV connections, with the largest being a 70-foot pull-through. LP gas is available as is free Wi-Fi. The facilities include a dog park, basketball and horseshoe courts, Nintendo sports Wii games and an outdoor swimming pool. The Corbin KOA also has hay rides, sells firewood and has on-site fishing.
