Those who prefer their outdoor recreation on dry land should try their hand at the two-mile loop known as Beaver Pond Trail, which is rich in historical significance. Those with bikes will want to tame the 29-mile-long Big Mac Shore Ramble.

Mackinaw City KOA

Mackinaw City KOA is open from May 1 to October 15 and is home to 101 gravel sites, most of which provide shade. The interior roads are also gravel and are well maintained. You'll find 63 pull-through sites, but the rest require backing-in skills. Facilities include restrooms and showers, laundromat, grocery store and a place to pick up some RV supplies. On-site recreation includes a heated swimming pool, horseshoes, a game room, and a nice playground for the younger kids. There's a mile of bike trail running from this Mackinaw City RV park into town and hundreds of miles of bike trails around the city. Just a mile and a half from the KOA is French Farm Lake, where you can canoe or fish, and the beaches of Lake Michigan are two miles away.

Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping

Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping is open from May 1 to October 19 and is home to 550 RV sites. Of these, 250 have gravel and 300 have grass. Some of the sites are shaded, and all require a back-in. These sites are full hookup, which includes 30/50 amps, sewer, water and wireless Internet service. Facilities include bathroom and shower, grocery store and an RV supply store. On-site recreation includes freshwater fishing right out of the one-mile coastline of Lake Huron and a swimming pool. Attach your boat because the park has a ramp onto Lake Huron. Other activities include a game room, playground, rec hall and golf. A free shuttle to Mackinaw Island is also included.

Tee Pee Campground

Tee Pee Campground offers quality gravel roads that take you straight to the 96 grass sites of which four are pull-through. These sites are mostly shaded and offer full hookup including 30/50 electricity. Facilities include restroom and showers, grocery store and a supply store. Tee Pee's location on the Straits of Mackinaw means plenty of chances for saltwater fishing, swimming and boating. Other on-site recreation includes horseshoes, a game room and a playground for the kids.
