Dawsonville, Georgia is a great location on the edge of it all. Just north of the Atlanta suburbs, and just south of Dahlonega and the outdoor playgrounds of Northern Georgia, Dawsonville is a great area to establish a base for your Georgia vacation. Camping opportunities are abundant in the surrounding area, with campers enjoying a pristine wilderness experience within easy day trip distance of the city and mountains alike.

Etowah River Campground

Just north of Dawsonville near Dahlonega lies the Etowah River Campground. This campground offers 62 full hookup, pull-through sites and 1,500 feet of frontage on the Etowah River. Trout fishing is one of the biggest attractions, and nearby Dahlonega was the site of the nation's first big gold rush. Atlanta and its multitude of city attractions is just an hour south. Nearby are great hiking opportunities in the national forest and the famous Appalachian Trail.

Under the Hemlock

For quiet, laid-back camping just a mile from Amicalola Falls State Park, look no further than Under the Hemlock. With both RV and tent sites available, what makes this campground unique is its "camping cabins". These rustic cabins offer a warm, dry place to relax, store gear and sleep, and are furnished with a refrigerator, electrical outlets and a single king-size bed with a fitted sheet provided.

Swiftwaters

Swiftwaters, near Dahlonega just north of Dawsonville, is unique in being a campground just for women to unwind, relax and enjoy the peace of nature. There are no RV hookups available, but in addition to tents, small self-contained vans are welcome. Hot showers are available from April to November, but the campground remains open year-round. For women looking to get away from it all, this is one of the most peaceful spots you will find.
