Campgrounds in Wexford County, Michigan
Wexford County, in the northwestern part of Michigan's lower peninsula, is largely made up of the Manistee National Forest, where visitors will find many fishing and hiking opportunities on more than 330 miles of trails. Visitors are allowed to camp in the forest with permit and several campgrounds would make a base camps for day trips.

Kestelwoods Campground

Kestelwoods Campground is located in southern Wexford County in the Manistee National Forest. It offers level grass campsites that include water, electric and a picnic table as well as a fire pit. The facility has modern bathrooms with showers, a heated pool and playground for the children along with volleyball and shuffleboard. Kestelwoods has a convenience store at the entrance that contains a small restaurant. The campground is located close to the Pine River, which is popular for tubing and canoeing as well as fishing.

Northern Exposure Campground

Northern Exposure Campground is located in central Wexford County just outside Mesick on 300 acres of park-like grounds. The campground has over two miles of shoreline on Hodenpyl Pond for guests to enjoy. Of the 260 sites, 100 are on the waterfront and 220 have water and electric hook-ups. Facility amenities include several bath houses with showers, a dog run and gathering pavilion. Guests have access to a boat launch and boat docking space on the lake, which is known locally for panfish and bass. Miles of trails in the surrounding woods fro hiking and biking.

Coolwater Campground

Coolwater Campground is located in the Manistee National Forest on the Pine River just outside of Wellston, Michigan. It offers campsites that include electric, water, fire ring and picnic table. They also rent cabins and travel trailers of varying sizes that are spread across the park. Facility amenities include restrooms, showers and laundry area along with a playground, camp store and basketball court. The facility is located along the Pine River and offers guests a canoe launching area; several area businesses rent canoes. Hiking trails are accessible from the park, and guests have a few locations on the river where they are able to fish.
