Characteristics of K2 Moto Speed Skis

Characteristics of K2 Moto Speed Skis
The Moto Speed is an older model K2 ski that was in production for the 2005-2006 season. The ski had the classic K2 red, white and blue graphics, a wood core and was popular for racers and experts. The ski was designed mainly for use in ski resorts but could also work for moderate backcountry and powder use.

Dimensions

The Moto Speed is 97mm wide at the tail, 68mm wide at the waist, and 112mm wide at the tip. The ski weighs 8 pounds, and is available in 153cm, 160cm, 167cm and 173cm lengths.

Techologies

The Moto Speed features K2's ABS sidewall construction, which uses thicker synthetic materials at the sidewalls to protect the core of the ski. It also has the MOD structure, making the ski thicker at the center to increase mass and stability at speed.

Turning

With its narrow waist and tight turning radius of 15 meters, the Moto Speed performs best as an aggressive slalom ski. Even though it has a snappy side-to-side quickness, the Moto Speed still can do well with longer, high speed giant slalom turns. The Moto Speed also works well in tight chutes and for tree skiing. The ski also works well in the bumps, though hard-chargers might find it a little soft for extremely technical bump skiing.

Powder

The Moto Speed is a little too narrow to float well in deep powder. In shallow powder typical of the East coast, the Moto Speed will work fine, but in the deeper powder conditions of the Rocky Mountains and the West Coast, the ski won't provide enough flotation to make powder skiing easier.
