Hotels near the Mookambika Temple of Kollur

Hotels near the Mookambika Temple of Kollur
Kollur, a South Indian town in Karnataka's Western Ghats, is one of the most popular destinations for Hindu pilgrims in the region. Its temple is dedicated to Devi Mookambika, a goddess professed to bestow wealth, learning, good health and prosperity in business. Located near Kodachadri Hill, Mookambika temple's stunning architecture on a backdrop of rolling green hills also draws tourists both in and out of pilgrim season. A good number of bare budget hotels are clustered around the temple area, but there are also several mid-range options with air-conditioned rooms and running hot water.

Beena Residency

One of Kollur's largest hotels, Beena Residency is a colorfully painted hotel about 100 yards from Mookambika's Temple's west gate. Out of its 41 rooms, 17 have air conditioning. Some rooms have cable TV and a fridge. Hot water is available in the morning, but only for a period of a few hours before 7 a.m., so if you want a hot shower you'd better be willing to wake up at the crack of dawn. A restaurant serving local cuisine is located on-site, and the hotel can arrange pooja ceremonies and tours for guests. The upside of this hotel is that the rates stay the same year-round and don't skyrocket during festivals or peak pilgrim seasons. Credit cards are not accepted. Online reservations are possible, but you will have to make a deposit into the hotel's bank account in India to hold the reservation.

Aswathi Tourist Home

Aswathi Tourist Home is a brightly painted mountain lodge with 25 rooms. Some rooms have air conditioning, while those without air conditioning serve as good budget options during the cooler months. The hotel offers 24-hour room service and guest laundry service. The hotel can also arrange taxi tours to nearby areas. Transportation to and from Mookambika Temple can also be arranged by the hotel. Double and triple rooms are available, and the on-site vegetarian restaurant serves up South Indian, North Indian and Chinese fare. Hot water is available during specified hours.

Seetha Deluxe Lodge

Don't let the name "deluxe" give you any grand vision of this budget hotel. The hotel is popular with pilgrims, considering that it's just 200 yards from Mookambika Temple and there is an on-site vegetarian restaurant serving low-cost South Indian dishes. Breakfast is available at the hotel, and some rooms have cable TVs. There are 13 rooms total, but only four of them have air conditioning. Rates change drastically between off-season and pilgrim-season, doubling or even tripling during periods of high demand. Some rooms have western toilets, while some have Indian toilets. Other rooms do not have ensuite bathrooms, and guest share toilet access. During high-season, check-out may be as early as 4 a.m. You can book rooms at the Seetha Deluxe Lodge online via Inasra, but prices are likely to be much higher than walk-in rates.
