Lake George, in the heart of New York's Adirondack Mountains, has everything for the outdoor vacationer. In the midst of 6 million Adirondack Park acres with rivers, forests and peaks waiting to be explored, the 32-mile-long lake offers swimming, kayaking and fishing fun. The Sacandaga River, less than 30 minutes away, attracts whitewater rafting enthusiasts. Cottages on Lake George provide comfortably rustic family accommodations.

Diamond Cove Cottages

On a private beach three miles north of Lake George Village, Diamond Coves Cottages offers family-friendly accommodations with fun for all ages. Kids will love the playground and indoor game arcade. The cottages have rental rowboats, canoes and kayaks for fun on the water. Other active facilities include a fitness room, basketball and pingpong. Fishing charters stop at the cottage dock to pick up and drop off anglers.

The 14 cottages with one, two or three bedrooms have showers, WiFi, kitchen facilities with breakfast nooks, air conditioning, phones and television with HBO. They sleep between two and six people. Outdoor grills and picnic tables add to the fun, as do massages and facials at the on-site Spa Studio. Guests can walk to several nearby restaurants, including the Diamond Point Grille and Tired John's Bar-B-Q Pit and Restaurant in less than five minutes.

Candlelight Cottages

Another lakeshore family resort, Candlelight Cottages is situated on 14 acres at the end of a half-mile private road. Guests are free to hike along the road and the resort's surrounding undeveloped property. The private 300-foot sand beach has kids' and adult swimming areas. The resort provides free rowboats, kayaks and canoes for lake exploration. Kids can fish with adult supervision or enjoy the playground. The recreation hall has a shuffleboard court and pingpong and pool tables.

The lakeside cottages sleep up to 10 people. They feature porches with sweeping lake views, charming rustic interiors, television, phones and baths with showers. Guests can prepare barbecued meals for outdoor dining or use their fully equipped kitchens. One mile to the south is the village of Bolton Landing, with plenty of restaurants, shops, laundry facilities and boat launches.

Trout House Village

In the northern Lake George village of Hague, Trout House has a 400-foot sand beach with a private dock, where guests can fish. The Hague Market, just a short bike ride way, is the Adirondack Mountain's oldest general store. Guests have use of the Trout House's rowboats, paddle boats, sailboats and canoes. Other outdoor amenities include a putting green, croquet lawn and shuffleboard court.

Trout House's three cottages feature rustic Adirondack decor with lots of natural wood and well-equipped kitchens with dishwashers. They have separate living rooms (two with fireplaces) and covered porches with panoramic lake views.
