The rural and agricultural town of Penrose, Colorado, is located within the south central region of the state. Outdoor activities abound in this area. Visitors to the region will not only find spectacular views, but also have opportunities to partake in fishing, boating, hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding, and to go whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River. RV campers will find a variety of places to park their rigs.

Floyd's RV Park

Located approximately 10 miles from the Pueblo Reservoir and Lake Pueblo State Park is Floyd's RV Park. The park is open year-round and offers mountain views and a campground snuggled among pine trees. There are 40 full hookup sites and 37 winterized spaces that will accommodate RVs up to 45 feet in length. Floyd's offers a centralized area for campfires, as well as facilities should a guest bring a horse, public pay phones, laundry facility, phone hookups and a covered pavilion with a fireplace. Pets are allowed. Guests can rent by the day, week or month. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, boating and fishing at Lake Pueblo State Park.

Indian Springs Ranch Campground

The heavily forested and secluded Indian Springs Ranch Campground, situated on 2,700 acres, has a registered National Natural Landmark, recognized for fossils, within its boundaries. The campground is located adjacent to the Beaver Creek State Wildlife Area where visitors can enjoy hiking, mountain biking and horse trails. The park offers 30 full hookup sites, six accommodating pull-throughs, and will handle RVs 45 feet or longer, with free Wi-Fi and phone hookups. Pets are OK. There is a group camping facility too. The campground offers a pool, bathrooms and showers, with weekend fossil tours offered. There is a centralized campfire area and horses are welcome. Hiking, mountain biking and wildlife viewing trails are abundant at the campground, which is approximately 15 miles from the Pueblo Reservoir and Lake Pueblo State Park.

Lake Pueblo State Park

Lake Pueblo State Park is located approximately 15 miles from the town of Penrose. The park offers 400 campsites within three campgrounds. Lake Pueblo State Park occupies 1,000 acres of land with access to 60 miles of Lake Pueblo shoreline. Visitors can enjoy full campsite facilities, with all sites offering a covered picnic table and fire pit. The full-service campground offers flush toilets, coin-operated showers, bathrooms, laundry facility and a dump station. There is a group campsite and pets are allowed. Boaters and anglers will enjoy the park's marina, boat ramp and fishing opportunities on Lake Pueblo. The park offers a multitude of hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails. Whitewater rafting enthusiasts will enjoy rafting on the Arkansas River located a short distance from the park, with outfitters approximately one mile away.
