Philadelphia, also known as the city of "Brotherly Love," has one of the United States' largest municipal parks, Fairmount Park, with over 215 miles of recreational trails. The 25-mile Schuylkill River Trail takes the hiker or biker along the river. Within the Fairmount Park is the Philadelphia Canoe Club for kayaking and canoeing. The club is open to the public and members paddle the Tohickon, the Schuylkill, and Delaware rivers. After outdoor activities, Old City, Philadelphia restaurants offer diversified cuisine.

City Tavern Restaurant

City Tavern Restaurant guests are treated to an 18th century colonial feast, including authentic period dinnerware, served by staff in period clothing. Music is played by a colonial harpist. You might enjoy Thomas Jefferson's favorite, sweet potato and pecan biscuits. City Tavern Restaurant has seven dining rooms, with three wine cellar rooms, and accommodates up to 500 people.

City Tavern Restaurant serves lunch and dinner. Specialty entrees include Martha Washington style colonial turkey pot pie with egg noodles, Tavern lobster pie and a seasonal vegetable, medallions of venison with a vegetable, and braised rabbit with egg noodles. Desserts are created in the on-site bakery.

Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar

Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar serves Nuevo Latino cuisine, a combination of Puerto Rican, Cuban, Caribbean and South American foods. As you are walking in Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar, you are transported back to Old Havana with the Latin music, decor and tropical foliage in the open-air courtyard.

A glimpse into a lunch and dinner menu reveals appetizer Havana Ceviche Misto, a chilled shrimp cocktail, made with fresh Baja bay scallops. Another appetizer is Tres Amigos, a trio of chicken, pulled pork and beef empanadas, all on a bed of tomatillo relish.

Two Cuban sandwiches, served both at lunch and dinner, include El Cubano and Miami Frita. The El Cubano is a classic Cuban pressed sandwich made with marinated pork loin, ham, Swiss cheese, garlic mojo, brown mustard and sliced pickles. The Miami Frita is a Cuban burger with pork, Spanish chorizo and ground beef, lettuce, tomato, mustard, and mojo de ajo on toasted Cuban bread. It comes with shoestring potato sticks. Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar serves lunch, dinner and tropical brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.

National Mechanics Bar & Restaurant

The decor of National Mechanics Bar & Restaurant, originally the 1837 Mechanics National Bank building, is uniquely eccentric with homemade lighting fixtures and clientele from all walks of life.

Premium grilled salmon with mustard cream sauce on a bed of saffron rice and served with a medley of vegetables is a National Mechanics Bar & Restaurant specialty. Or try a huge helping of vegetarian spinach fettuccine drenched in olive oil with sauteed garlic, along with sun dried tomatoes, black olives and mushrooms. Top off with a creme brulee or chocolate debauchery dessert.

National Mechanics Bar & Restaurant is open on Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner. On Monday, it is only open for dinner.
