Alleghany County is in the Appalachian region of Virginia near the West Virginia border. Made up of the four towns of Selma, Low Moor, Iron Gate and Clifton Forge, Alleghany County is a quiet rural area dotted with state parks, forest and rivers. Part of the Shenandoah Valley, the region offers myriad opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts during all four seasons. Drive the Highlands Scenic Byway, kayak at Petticoat Junction or hike through Rich Hole Wilderness. Most hotels convenient for Alleghany County are in Covington, the county seat.

Oak Tree Inn

Newly opened in 2009, the Oak Tree Inn is the only hotel in Low Moor, one of Alleghany County's small towns. Just off Interstate 64 in rural Appalachia, Low Moor is between Clifton Forge and the larger city of Covington. Rooms include microwave, fridge, LCD TV and free wireless Internet access. On site, guests can dine at Penny's '50s-style diner. Daily breakfast is included in room rates, and Penny's American fare is available 24 hours. Near the towns of Selma and Iron Gate as well, Oak Tree Inn is close to all four of Alleghany County's historic town centers. George Washington National Forest is next to the Interstate, and Rich Patch Mines is just a short drive from the hotel.

Best Western Mountain View

In Covington on the edge of George Washington National Forest sits Best Western Mountain View, a pet-friendly hotel with an outdoor pool. All guests enjoy complimentary wired and wireless Internet access as well complimentary breakfast. The on-site restaurant, complete with floral decor and funky pink wrap-around benches, serves American-style cuisine. Amenities also include in-room satellite TV and free local calls less than 30 minutes. Cucci Pizzeria is within walking distance of the hotel. Thirty-seven of the hotel's 76 guest rooms are nonsmoking, and one is accessible to people with disabilities.

Holiday Inn Express Covington Hotel‎

A four-story hotel, Holiday Inn Express in Covington has 63 guest rooms. Wired and wireless Internet are included with room rates, as is a hot continental breakfast. On the premises you will find a fitness room, indoor pool and whirlpool. Jacuzzi rooms are available if you'd like to add a little luxury into your Alleghany County trip. There isn't a restaurant on site but several are nearby, including Chinese Imperial Work and Cat & Owl, a local steak and seafood restaurant. The hotel is just less than a 15-minute drive from Clifton Forge and George Washington State Forest. Pets are not allowed.
