The Thousand Islands region of New York State is located on the St. Lawrence River, at the U.S. border with Canada. The area has more than 1,800 islands and is a popular tourist destination, especially among outdoor enthusiasts, with 25 state parks that offer a variety of activities. Robert Moses State Park has a beach and nature, hiking and cross-country skiing trails in fields, forests and wetlands. Long Point State Park is in a remote area on Lake Ontario and features fishing and boating. Wellesley Island State Park is the largest in the area, with swimming, fishing and hiking. The hotels in Thousand Islands are not large, but most are near the water and close to a least one of the parks.

The Crystal Dining Room, which overlooks the St. Lawrence River, is family friendly with a special children's menu and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Home of the Stars is a Las Vegas-style night club that features live entertainment. The Sunset Lounge has easy listening music for dancing. The Rum Runner Wharf Bar and Grill is on the banks of the river and is a casual and relaxed place that features meals, snacks and a raw bar.

Capt. Thompson's Resort

Capt. Thompson's Resort has a total of 68 rooms. Amenities include free wireless Internet, coffee in the rooms, cable TV, an outdoor heated pool and a kiddie pool. Capt.'s Landing "Floating Restaurant" is right on the St. Lawrence River. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a special children's menu. The cuisine is American style featuring steaks.

Edgewood Resort Conference Center and Marina is right on the water. The hotel offers a total of 110 rooms and suites, most of which have balconies that look out over the water. Some suites have Jacuzzis and/or full kitchens. The hotel features an outdoor pool, marina, nature trails, conference and event rooms that can accommodate up to 650 guests, Oscar's Harborside Dining Room and the River Front Cafe and Scuttlebutt Bar.
