Sandbridge Beach, Virginia, is a family-resort area on the state's outer banks. Visitors can water ski, kayak, bike, canoe, surf and play beach volleyball. Little Island Park is the largest public beach in Sandbridge, and it has a lifeguard during the summer season. It also has tennis courts, a playground, fishing pier, basketball courts and bath houses. From the park you can catch a tram to Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. More than 300 species of migrating and wintering birds have been seen at the refuge. Explore its diverse habitats, which include brackish marsh, woodlands, scrubs and barrier island beach. Sandbridge Beach does not have any hotels, only rental homes. But there are lots of options in Virginia Beach, about 10 miles away.
