Boeri Tactic Helmet
The Boeri helmet's patented Head-Loc Occipital Retention System, as well as its adjustable ventilation system, makes it one of the top helmets on the market. The men's helmet has been updated to include a discreet video camera into its hard steel halo. The women's model includes a "pony port," to keep your hair in place. Boeri helmets are designed in compliance with the Snell Memorial Foundation's Standards. Visit www.boeriusa.com.
Giro G9 Helmet
The Giro 9 has a lightweight design and a wide-angle cut that enables enhanced peripheral vision. Its low rim prevents what ski town locals call the "gaper gap," which is the unsightly and dysfunctional gap between the helmet and the goggles. Giro's (www.giro.com) signature "Super Cool" ventilation system is designed allow fresh air into the helmet while forcing out stale air. Giro uses the American Society of Testing and Materials certification.
Poc Receptor Bug
Skiing Magazine senior editor Sam Bass claims that he owes his life to the Poc Receptor Bug Helmet (www.pocsports.com). While skiing Utah's backcountry at 25 miles an hour, he had an unfortunate encounter with a tree. Bass suffered a minor concussion, which would have been worse had he not been wearing his Poc Receptor Bug Helmet. Bass had not been a fan of helmets. He wore the Poc as part of an equipment demonstration. He planned to eventually take it off and put on his hat. Despite the Poc's durable, double-decker construction, the helmet was so light that Bass didn't realize he was wearing it. Poc is a Swedish company, and thus uses the Common European Norm.
