Springfield, Illinois, offers several RV parks and campgrounds that appeal to the outdoor enthusiast. Lake Springfield is near most of these parks and offers the Lake Springfield Trail for hikers to test their abilities over six miles. Lake Springfield also has 40 miles of shoreline and offers bird watching.

Mr. Lincoln's Campground

Mr. Lincoln's Campground includes 42 RV-only sites with full hookups that include 30/50 amp power, sewer, water and cable. The campground also has the largest RV center for parts and service in Springfield. Recreational activities at the site include horseshoes and a sports field. Golfers should look toward the Oaks Golf Course and Panther Creek Country Club. The resort is next to the Sangamon River, where you can enjoy whitewater paddling. As you might expect, plenty of opportunities exist around the campground to find out more about President Lincoln.

Double J Campground

The Double J Campground is home to 124 sites that feature shady trees. Sixty-one of the sites are full hookup with 30/50 amp power, water, electric and sewer, and 71 sites have just water and electricity. This RV campground is just 15 minutes from downtown Springfield and is open from April Fool's Day through Halloween. Amenities include a swimming pool, hot showers, RV camp store, parts and service store, laundromat and game room. A boat ramp is available at Lake Springfield just 1.5 miles away, and there are no less than nine golf courses within just a few miles of the park. Pets are acceptable as long as they remain leashed. On-site recreation includes miniature golf, tennis courts, basketball court, a playground for the kids, croquet, badminton and shuffleboard.

Springfield KOA

Springfield KOA is open from April 1 through Nov. 1. The maximum pull-through lengths for rigs is 80 feet, and 50-amp power is available. Free wireless Internet service is available, and the swimming pool is open from May 20 to Sept. 10. For an additional charge, play miniature golf and rent bikes. The fishing, boating and swimming fun at Lake Springfield is just two miles from Springfield KOA.
