Initially famous for the 1939 movie Gone With the Wind, in the last few years Atlanta, Georgia has become one of the south's most visited cities for outdoor enthusiasts. Water sports enthusiasts will enjoy kayaking and canoeing on the Chattahoochee River. Lake Lanier offers swimming and canoeing. Hikers will love Sweetwater Creek trail and its Civil War ruins. Go mountain biking on Bear Creek Trail and, in the evening, satisfy your hunger at one of northern Atlanta's excellent restaurants.

Haven is an upscale restaurant located in Brookhaven in northern Atlanta. Specializing in American cuisine from a seasonal menu, Haven offers appetizers, light meals, salads and a variety of heavier entrees. For a lighter meal, try the hickory smoked chicken salad or crispy bay oysters. For something more filling, roasted Scottish salmon served with couscous or smoked bacon wrapped trout will surely please. The restaurant's dessert menu boasts old fashioned banana pudding and warm chocolate brownies with ice cream, and don't miss the excellent wine list. Haven is a wonderful choice for lunch or dinner after hiking one of Atlanta's trails, or for a relaxing Sunday brunch.

Hudson Grille in Brookhaven is designed like an old-style grille but serves contemporary American cuisine for an inexpensive price. The extensive menu features burgers, salads, wraps, wings, seafood and steaks. Try the Atlantic salmon, a Hudson sirloin steak, a New York pastrami sandwich or a buffalo chicken wrap. Pub 71

Voted the best Irish pub in Atlanta for two years in a row, Pub 71 is a wonderful neighborhood Irish pub that serves a mix of traditional Irish food and contemporary American fare in a cozy environment. The pub's extensive menu features such dishes as fish tacos, pigs in a blanket (sausages in batter), fajitas, blackened sirloin steak, fish and chips, classic burgers and pub nachos. For dessert, cinnamon raisin bread pudding is a favorite. The pub also has a large menu of draft and bottled beers, as well as wine and spirits. A Nutty Irishman (a mix of whiskey, hazelnut liquor and Irish creme) is a must try. Pub 71 also has live music on the weekends.
