The Finger Wharf
BLUE Sydney is located inside Woolloomooloo Bay's Finger Wharf, a nearly 1,400 feet long wooden wharf building. The Finger Wharf, built between 1910 and 1916, was once the the center of a veritable city within a city that was Sydney's commercial shipping industry; it served as the city's primary embarkation point for seafaring troops during World Wars I and II. Later, it was used in part as a passenger terminal for immigration and cruise ships
.
The Finger Wharf was closed in the 1970s and ordered demolished in the 1980s, but in the early 1990s, it was saved when developers began renovating the building into offices and apartments. In 2000, W Hotels opened a luxury hotel at the wharf, which was purchased by Taj in 2006 for $27 million and rebranded the Taj BLUE Sydney.
