Norton is a small town that sits on the Canadian border and is near The Kingdom State Forest, several lakes and Brighton State Park. According to the Vermont State Parks Division, Brighton is the wildest and most isolated area in Vermont. The park has several hiking and biking trails that lead in and out of the forest, snake along Spectacle Pond and provide access to the varied wildlife of the park.

Quimby Country Lodge and Cottages

The Quimby Country Lodge and Cottages has been welcoming guests for more than 100 years on its 1,000-acre property in the Great North Woods Forest, located in Averill, about nine miles south of Norton. Hiking and biking trails surround the lodge, which sits on the pristine Forest Lake. The lodge has 20 rustic cabins with porches overlooking the lake. Some cabins come with kitchenettes and range from one to four bedrooms. Wireless Internet is available in the main lodge. Summer visitors receive a breakfast and dinner, plus boxed lunches. Once a week, the lodge puts on a lakeside lobster cookout. Nearby Big Averill Lake provides fishing, swimming and canoeing opportunities.

Pure Country Motel & Cabins

The Pure Country Motel is a four-season establishment on the shores of Lake Wallace in nearby Canaan, about eight miles east of Norton. Visitors can try their hands at snowmobiling, deer and moose hunting, fishing, ATV riding and, of course, hiking and biking. The motel has a convenience store that offers snowmobile registration, Canadian trail permits and fishing supplies and bait. Guests can choose from motel rooms that accommodate from two to four people and come with satellite television. There are also three furnished cabins for groups of six to eight people, housekeeping units with a stocked kitchen and stove, and an apartment for four to six people. Children 12 years and under stay for free, and pets are welcome for a nightly fee.

Maurice's Motel

Maurice's Motel is located about 14 miles east of Norton in nearby Canaan. The motel offers nine units that can accommodate from one to five people, and include amenities such as cable television. Some rooms include microwaves and refrigerators. Pets are welcome. The motel sits along the "Mostly Moose" 67.5-mile bike route, and is within walking distance of restaurants, laundromat and nightlife, as well as the Connecticut River for fishing. The Maine State Park and Screw Auger Falls are a short car ride away.
