Home to more than 400,000 people, the city of Miami is situated along the Atlantic Ocean on the southeastern shore of Florida. For outdoor enthusiasts, Miami is a central location for hikers wishing to trek Biscayne National Park or Big Cypress Wilderness Preserve. There is also snorkeling and shipwreck diving along the coast. La Paloma

La Paloma is about 11 miles from the South Beach Dive and Surf Center, which offers daily scuba diving and snorkeling trips. The menu at La Paloma draws inspiration from a variety of continental European cuisines. To start the meal, it serves a variety of appetizers, including marinated herrings.

One of the chef's specialties is the Russian favorite chicken Kiev, which is tender chicken breasts breaded and filled with a buttery center. For dessert, try the hot apple strudel a la mode with a hot espresso or capuccino. La Paloma is open daily for lunch and dinner. Reservations are suggested.

Lula Kebab

Located in Sunny Isles Beach just 18 miles north of Miami, Lula Kebab House serves cuisine from Russia and Kazakhstan, which was a part of the former Soviet Union. The restaurant is approximately 54 miles from Biscayne National Park, but worth the trip, due to the rarity of Kazakh restaurants.

The name Lula Kebab comes from a dish on the menu. It is roasted lamb served over onions with sumac seasoning. Other Russian fare includes borscht beet soup, dumplings, beef stroganoff and Georgian lamb stew. Dessert selections include the cherry blini. The bar serves a variety of vodkas as well as beer, wine and cocktails. Lula Kebab House is open daily for dinner.

Kalinka Russian-European Delicatessen

Also located in Sunny Isles Beach, Kalinka Restaurant-European Delicatessen is less than 1 mile from Adventure Scuba Diving, which offers gear rental and both scuba diving one-day and weekend trips.

The restaurant is situated inside an Eastern European grocery and offers a variety of traditional Russian recipes. The menu begins with appetizers, salads and soups, like dumplings filled with cheese, beef or potatoes.

Entrees include chicken stroganoff, fish croquettes in a heavy Russian gravy and blintzes with beef or cottage cheese. Kalinka Restaurant-European Delicatessen is open daily for lunch and dinner.
