When you park your RV at a campground in Redding, California, you will want to have packed your bicycle, your best hiking boots and your lucky rod and reel. Those with a canoe definitely will want to plop into the water to tackle the 22 miles of the Redding to Balls Ferry water trail. The Blue Gravel Mine Trail is fascinating because its metal tunnel leads you toward a canyon occupied by massive trees.

Fawndale Oaks RV Park

Fawndale Oaks RV Park is located by Lake Shasta and is just 10 miles north of downtown Redding. Hookups include 50-amp electricity, sewer, water and cable TV. The park includes a boat storage facility, swimming pool with a lazy river area, picnic area, convenience store, rec room and laundry. Recreation includes a playground for the kids that include a very cool wooden ship, arcade games, billiards, ping-pong table and on-site hiking trails. Lassen Volcanic National Park is less than an hour away from Fawndale and includes more than 150 miles of hiking trails.

Green Acres RV Park

Green Acres RV Park is the place to be if your idea of a great RV vacation means being surrounding by beautiful mountains. Full hookups include sewer, water, cable TV, phone and 50-amp power. The resort's swimming pool is small but tastefully adorned with large shade umbrellas that are near the picnic pavilion. The laundry includes four washers and dryers, a folding table, hanging rack and reading area. A boat launch ramp is nearby to allow you to take a scenic trip down the Sacramento River. A short drive in the opposite direction will take you to Whiskeytown National Recreation Area where activities include kayaking, swimming, water-skiing, fishing and hiking.

Mountain Gate RV Park

Mountain Gate RV park can be found 3 miles south of Shasta Lake. The sites are large, paved and feature full hookups including 50-amp power. The property features a swimming pool, plenty of shade trees, showers, free wireless Internet service and a fenced dog run so bring along your pet if you've got one. Mountain Gate is recommended for its central location between Mount Shasta and Lassen Volcanic National Park. This means the opportunity to take on a hike at Castle Crags State Park as well as a take a swim at the bottom of impressive Burney Falls. Shasta Lake is an angler's paradise with the opportunity to reel in bluegill, carp, sturgeon and catfish.
