Campgrounds in South Florida
Visitors to South Florida will find much of the area still preserved in its natural state. The vast part of the state encompasses the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Florida Keys and the ecologically diverse Everglades National Park. Outdoor activities abound, including hiking, boating, fishing, swimming, surfing and wildlife viewing.

Curry Hammock State Park

Located on a grouping of small islands in the midsection of the Florida Keys is Curry Hammock State Park. The park is on both sides of U.S. 1, lined by the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. There are 28 full-facility campsites with a picnic table, fire ring and grill. RVs up to 70 feet can be accommodated. Situated in a hardwood hammock and mangrove swamp wetland, the park offers many wildlife-viewing opportunities. Pets are welcome. Amenities include bathrooms, showers, a picnic area with grills and beach swimming. The park also has trails for hiking and biking. There is flats fishing in the park.

Oscar Scherer State Park

Oscar Scherer State Park is in the southwestern section of the state and is approximately 25 miles from Everglades National Park. Consisting of scrub flatwoods, palms and mangrove swamps, the area is one of the best to view the endangered Florida Scrub Jay. There are full-facility sites that have a picnic table, fire ring and grill, with room for RVs up to 36 feet. The park has group and youth camping sites. Pets are accepted. The park has a picnic area with grills, playground, guided tours, bathrooms, showers and nature center. Anglers can fish from the freshwater lake or South Creek, flowing through the park. Recreational activities include canoeing, kayaking, hiking and nature viewing.

Collier-Seminole State Park

Located on the edge of the Everglades and outside Naples is Collier-Seminole State Park. The park has vegetation and wildlife typically found within Everglades National Park, as well as a tropical forest of Royal Palms. There are 120 full-facility sites, which include a picnic table, grill and fire ring. Primitive and group camping sites also are available. Maximum RV length is 60 feet. The park offers a visitor's center, showers, bathrooms, picnic areas and pavilions, canoe rentals, and pets are allowed. Outdoor recreational activities include 3.5 miles of biking trails, 7 miles of hiking and nature trails, and 13.6 miles of canoe trails on the Blackwater River, which also is accessible through the park's boat ramp.
