Known as the site of the first official engagement of the American Civil War, Carthage Missouri, is a historical destination for RV campers as well as one with many recreational opportunities. The area's two largest parks are Kellogg Lake on Spring River and Municipal Park. Visitors can enjoy hiking, swimming, fishing and golf in these parks and within the surrounding area.

Big Red Barn RV Park & Campground

Big Red Barn RV Park offers its guests 62 full hook-up sites with 30- and 50-amp service. There are eight basic water and electric sites available as well. Other amenities include Internet connection, cable TV, concrete patios, picnic tables, a pool table and laundry facilities. Guests can also enjoy local attractions such as the historical Carthage Civil War battle site, horseback riding trails, hiking and cycling.

Joplin KOA

Joplin KOA has accommodations for RV sites, tent sites and cabins. Amenities include full hookups, 30- and 50-amp service, up to 85 feet pull-through, cable TV, Internet access, a swimming pool and laundry facilities. Guests can take advantage of the on-site bicycle and Go Kart rentals as well as a catch and release fishing pond. Other activities are basketball, tetherball, hiking, horseshoes and wildlife viewing.

Springfield/Route 66 KOA

This RV park has RV sites, tent sites and cabins with amenities such as 50-amp service, 80 feet of maximum-length pull-through, Internet access and a swimming pool. Guests can enjoy activities onsite such as bicycling, hiking and swimming. In addition, the Deer Lake Golf Course is adjacent to the campground. Guests can also venture out and explore the local area attractions like Fantastic Caverns and Wilson's Creek National Battlefield.
