Tahlequah, Oklahoma, offers area residents and outdoor enthusiasts a variety of local attractions. Both the No Head Hollow Public Use Area and the Echota Public Use Area offer visitors miles of walking trails, picnicking grounds and open fields ideal for bird-watching. There are several cabins in the area along the Illinois River.

Elephant Rock Nature Park

Elephant Rock Nature Park is a 120-acre woodland preserve featuring several miles of hiking trails, overlooks and open fields. The Nature Park offers a variety of accommodations, including campsites and tent grounds, but residents seeking a more comfortable accommodation can stay in Yurk Cabin, the park's pristine log cabin located along the Illinois River. The cabin includes two full-size beds and a full-size futon and sleeps six adults comfortably. The cabin also includes a stove and oven, cookware and utensils, coffee pot, toaster and microwave. The cabin is located in Elephant Rock Nature Park, 2.5 miles north of the Highway 62 and Route 10 North junction. The park offers pack and peddle treks, guided tours, Illinois River float tours, and canoe and kayak rentals.

Tenkiller's Cookson Cottage

Tenkiller's Cookson Cottage is located along the Illinois River in downtown Tahlequah. This lodge is located in the foothills of the Oklahoma Ozarks next to Lake Tenkiller and features lush green scenery and abundant wildlife. The lodge has a tree-house feel and Tenkiller's Cookson Cottage is fully furnished and open year-round. The cottage features a living room with color TV and DVD player, a fully equipped kitchen and a bedroom with two queen-size beds. The lodge also offers guests a jacuzzi, covered patio, boat dock and charcoal grill.

Burnt Cabin Marina Resort

Also along the Illinois River in Tahlequah is Burnt Cabin Marina Resort. This resort features six private cabins, each of which sleeps up to six people. All the cabins come with couches, kitchen tables, beds and chairs. In addition, the kitchens are fully stocked with a microwave, refrigerator, stove, coffee maker, toaster and charcoal grill on the patio. Some cabins include breakfast bars, hot tubs, sleeping lofts and futons. Guests have full access to Burnt Cabina Marina and may rent pontoon boats and boating gear, including life preservers for children and adults.
