Located on the eastern side of the state and identified as an "independent city," Williamsburg provides residents and guests with an opportunity to explore American history. With more than a dozen golf courses and 15 parks, there's plenty to do if you're an outdoor enthusiast. At the 689-acre Freedom Park guests can tour three historically accurate recreated cabins, hike 1.8 miles of trails and mountain bike through forests, along creeks and past meadows.

Christiana Campbell's Tavern

Known as George Washington's favorite tavern, Christiana Campbell's Tavern now offers dining in a casual atmosphere. The menu includes chicken, seafood and beef, and entrees include seafood stew, fried oyster salad, grilled tenderloin of beef and crab cake, the captain's feature fish of the day. Menu items change and an extensive wine, drink and beer menu is also offered.

Regency Room

The Regency Room, inside the Williamsburg Inn, offers a fine dining experience. The menu includes appetizers, salads, beef, seafood, pasta, veal and poultry. Dishes include hand-rolled parpadelle pasta, crabmeat randolph, pan-seared natural veal loin, white balsamic-sauteed salmon fillet and pan-roasted natural chicken breast. Seasonal entrees are offered as well. Jackets are required for dinner, and no denim is allowed except during breakfast hours.

Shields Tavern

Shields Tavern has been serving food since the early 1740s. Now serving lunch and dinner, Shields offers seafood, poultry, pork and beef. Dishes include travis house oysters, barbecue sandwich, dish of pork, barnyard chicken and seafood gumbo. Casual attire is acceptable but reservations are required.
