Ely is a small town in northeastern Minnesota known for its fishing and as the launching point for trips into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). Visitors to Ely can spend time in a rustic cabin and have direct access to canoe routes, snowmobile trails and miles of marked cross-country ski trails. Fishermen enjoy going after northern pike, walleye, bass, perch, bluegills and crappies.

Available year-round, this cabin is pet-friendly and accommodates four to eight persons. It also has large sundecks with patio furniture and a hammock overlooking the lake. Leaning Cedar Tree Cabin

A remote rustic cabin, the Leaning Tree is set in a boreal forest close to the North Kawishiwi River and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. The cabin is only accessible by water from Farm Lake. Facilities include a wood-burning stove, a modern gas range, a propane refrigerator, electric lights, an outdoor fire pit, canoes and kayaks. There is a full kitchen, down bedding, organic cotton sheets and towels, a wood-fired sauna and a deck overlooking the water and forest. Guests can rent the available 16-foot fishing boat with gas motor. Visitors can also enjoy cross-country skiing, dog sledding, canoeing in the BWCA and boating in the nearby chain of lakes.

Log Cabin Hideaways

Six of these seven remote cabins have no electricity, telephones or indoor plumbing. The Log Cabin Hideaways are hand-made, individually-designed log units of different sizes accommodating from 2 to 10 persons and vary from economy to semi-luxury. Most of the cabins are available year-round for a weekly or three-day minimum rental. Management escorts visitors to their cabin and provides fresh drinking water and propane for lighting, cooking and refrigeration. Each cabin has a clean, comfortable outhouse and a canoe. A traditional Finnish sauna with a porch is located close by.
