With a year-round population of 1,200 residents, the town of Talihina, Oklahoma, sees much of its traffic come from tourists. Outdoor enthusiasts flock to this locale due its proximity to water sports on the Kiamichi River, the Black Fork River and Cedar Lake. Talihina also offers rock climbing at Robbers Cove, golfing at Buzzard Creek Park and hiking in the Ouachita National Forest. Several motels can be found in the area.

Lazy R Inn

The Lazy R Inn provides 10 rooms for guests. Eight of the rooms are nonsmoking, and all have queen-size beds, a microwave, refrigerator and ceiling fan. Kiamichi Inn

Kiamichi Inn offers 20 rooms with either one, two or three beds. Smoking and nonsmoking rooms are available and amenities include cable TV, a microwave, a refrigerator and a coffeemaker. There is no charge for children. Kiamichi is located about 8 miles from Talimena Scenic Drive and is close to fishing at Honobia Creek and golfing at Buzzard Creek Park. Several restaurants are within walking distance.

Hootie Creek House

Constructed in 1948, the Hootie Creek House bed and breakfast has five rooms for Talihina visitors. Each room has a private bathroom, along with a "Sun Room" down the hall that provides fresh coffee and other beverages. Hungry guests will also find a cafe-style kitchen on the first floor serving a complimentary breakfast of baked bread and biscuits. Train enthusiasts will be charmed by the model engine on the front porch area, while all ages can play the board games offered indoors. Cyclists will find that the motel is located minutes from bike routes on Big Foot Loop and the Talimena Scenic Drive.

Horse Heaven Ranch Resort

As its name might imply, the Horse Heaven Ranch Resort is sure to make horse lovers feel at home. The resort offers six one- and two-bedroom cabins. Guests are welcome to bring their equestrian friends to stay on the property, but those traveling solo can also find ranch horses to ride in the backwoods trails. Rooms come equipped with many kitchen amenities, including pots and pans, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and stove. Guests can also enjoy the cable television and central air. There are also 32 RV sites on the property. The ranch is roughly a mile and a half from restaurants and shops in downtown Talihina.
