A La Turca
A La Turca was the first entirely Turkish restaurant established in San Francisco. Even as more of these restaurants have popped up, A La Turca continues to receive great reviews and distinguished titles in the "San Francisco Guardian," the "San Francisco Chronicle" and other local publications. Ingredients are brought in fresh daily to ensure maximum quality in the dishes, which contain no artificial preservatives or flavorings. The small, café-styled restaurant may not scream elegance, but the quality and flavor of the food speaks for itself. Vegetarians will find the spinach, feta and mozzarella pie, served with a house salad, to be delicately flakey, delicious and filling. Meat lovers, on the other hand, rave about the combo doner platter with thin slices lamb, beef and chicken doner served with salad and rice. Both groups agree that the stuffed grape leaf appetizers are delicious, but quite different than other dolmas served around the city, as these contain pine nuts and currants. Diners should be sure to enjoy a rich Turkish coffee or a Turkish beer with their meal to enjoy a truly authentic Turkish dining experience.

Troya
If looking for something a little more upscale than A La Turca, those with an appetite should consider the fine dining experience at Troya's. The simple, classic yet chic décor is ideal for a romantic meal or a night out with friends. The contemporary food presentation fit in this setting perfectly, as the traditional flavors of Turkey meet modern cooking methods. For something different, it is recommended to try the manti, Turkish-styled ravioli filled with lamb and served in a paprika yogurt sauce. If diners like to stay with more familiar flavors, the grilled baby lamb chops with seasonal veggies and pilaf is both fresh and flavorful. Whatever the entrée, guests should be sure to start off their meal with some fried zucchini cakes served in a coriander and mint aioli sauce.

Bursa Kebab
A great gem hidden along West Portal, Bursa is a cheerful restaurant that offers great food both for lunch and dinner. The thing that really keeps people coming back for more though, is the xcellent lunch special. For only $7 (price 2010), diners can enjoy rice, salad and any kebab of their choice or, for vegetarians, stuffed eggplant. If they don't like spicy food, it's best to avoid the lamb here, as it is always served very hot.
