Hotels in Corinto, Nicaragua
Often a port-of-call on Panama cruises, Corinto Nicaragua--the premier port during the Spanish war--is a petite coastal town in northwest Nicaragua. Located in the Chinandega city district, Corinto hosts one of the largest harbor ports in Central America. With almost no city to muddle the harbor and irritate the life there, Puerto Corinto is an ideal place to visit Nicaragua for the first time. Visitors enjoy trekking up volcano "San Cristobol"--the tallest volcano in Nicaragua at 5,725 feet or 1,745 meters, according to Hotel Cosiguina's website, hotelcosiguina.com; hiking through lush rainforests; mountain biking; scuba diving; and taking boat trips to the nearby tropical island, El Cardon. Back in Corinto, the streets are filled with small village shops, churches, authentic coffee shops and accommodations on Nicaragua's tropical Pacific coast.
