Hungarian Restaurants in Cleveland, Ohio
Cleveland, Ohio has an extensive network of parks, called "The Emerald Necklace," that completely rings the city in green. Just a few miles outside the city limits, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park has been preserved for future generations; the Towpath Trail follows the historic Ohio and Erie Canal from Cleveland to Akron. Work up an appetite, then visit one of these Hungarian restaurants for a hearty, stick-to-your-ribs meal.

Balaton Restaurant

A stalwart Cleveland institution, the Balaton Restaurant at Shaker Square has been serving up authentic Hungarian meals since 1964. Over the years, Balaton has been written about favorably by many local food critics, and has won numerous reader's polls throughout the area. Open Tuesday through Sunday, the restaurant serves a different variety of homemade soup every day, in addition to a good list of Hungarian appetizers to start your meal. Hungarian schnitzels in both veal and chicken, breaded chicken livers, stuffed cabbage, and several varieties of paprikash and goulash share the menu with lighter fare like stuffed trout and pan-seared salmon and tilapia.

Little Budapest Restaurant

Serving up traditional Hungarian foods, Little Budapest is a quaint little restaurant in the end of a strip mall. The owner, Jozsef, fled Hungary in 1987 when the state confiscated his string of restaurants in Budapest. Bringing the classic Hungarian recipes with him has helped him build Little Budapest into a thriving business. With the typical huge Hungarian portion sizes, meals of stuffed cabbage, lecso, chicken paprikash and theatrical flaming pancakes will satisfy hearty eaters.

Monica's Caribbean & Hungarian Restaurant

Definitely a strange pairing, but Monica Limerick has been serving up both types of cuisine for a little over a year now. Located in an Eastern European neighborhood, the small sit-down restaurant is open from Wednesday through Sunday, with a breakfast buffet on Saturday mornings. There are a number of homemade foods that will appeal to Hungarian food lovers: goulash, split pea soup, stuffed cabbage with dumplings, wiener schnitzel, pork chops nestled in cabbage, and chicken paprikash with dumplings and noodles, as well as homemade strudels.
