In Charlotte, the McDowell Nature Preserve has more than seven miles of trails for viewing common loon, grasshopper sparrow and loggerhead shrike birds, 16 miles of trail in the Latta Plantation Nature Preserve for Kentucky warbler and indigo bunting, and 18 miles of birding trails in Lake Norman State Park for osprey and belted kingfisher. In addition to birdwatching on Lake Norman, other activities include a swimming beach, canoe rentals and fishing for bass (striped, large-mouth, and white), yellow and bluegill perch and crappie.

Several wraps and burritos include Baja veggie wrap, epic tuna burrito, shrimp & chicken burrito and Southwest chicken wrap. "Big Swells" entrees, such as roasted jalapeno salmon, quesadillas, tuna rancheros and Baja bowls, may satisfy your appetite. Cabo Fish Taco Baja Seagrill is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, with weekly lunch specials.

LaVecchia's Seafood Grille

LaVecchia's Seafood Grille features steaks, saltwater and freshwater fish, and seafood. If you visit during the month of your birthday, you are entitled to half off the price of your dinner entree. LeVecchia's Seafood Grille has daily food and drink specials.

Some house specialties include grilled Atlantic salmon, Carolina crabcake dinner, almond-crusted tilapia and pepper seared yellowfin tuna. Its wine list offers 90-plus wines by the bottle or glass. LeVecchia's Seafood Grille is open Monday to Saturday.

McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant

McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant, located near the Charlotte Convention Center, provides complimentary valet parking. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant specialties include entrees such as Atlantic salmon, lobster ravioli, ahi tuna and swordfish. Traditional seafood entrees include catfish and Maryland-style blue crab cakes.

McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant dinner specialties entrees include ahi tuna from Kona, Hawaii, swordfish from Gulf Coast, Fla., and Atlantic salmon from Bay of Fundy, Canada. In addition, fresh Maine lobster, petite filet mignon, top sirloin and New York strip steak are served at dinner, starting at 4 p.m.

Happy Hour with drink specials is served Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. A semi-private room for private parties is available for groups of 10 to 60 people.

Ratcliffe on the Green

Ratcliffe on the Green uses fresh ingredients from locally grown products in its French-influenced cuisine. You can select a three- or four-course meal from the chef's tasting menu.

Ratcliffe on the Green at lunch includes salads such as Carolina crabcake salad and grilled Loch Duart salmon salad. You can make selections from entrees such as crawfish and andouille omelet, fresh fish catch of the day and BBQ pork. Dinner specialties include duck and pheasant pot pie, grilled New York strip Dianne, grilled North Carolina trout and veal Wellington and sauteed greens. Ratcliffe on the Green restaurant is open at lunch, Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and for dinner, Monday through Saturday, from 5 to 10 p.m.
