Sharon is a town in Litchfield County, Connecticut. The Housatonic Meadows State Park in Sharon offers 95 camping sites in the pine forests. The campground is near the river and provides bathrooms and showers. Note that it is only open from the middle of April to the end of December. You can go canoeing or fly fishing for trout and bass along a two-mile stretch of the Housatonic. The state park also has hiking trails and picnicking areas. Although there are no cabins in Sharon, in addition to the campgrounds, Sharon has a motor lodge, and there are several affordable options for accommodations in the surrounding towns, all under 15 minutes away.

The Sharon Motor Lodge offers rooms with televisions, telephones, coffee makers and individually-controlled air-conditioning. There is also an outdoor swimming pool and RV parking is available. The lodge is close to the Sharon Audubon Center, wineries and antique shops, and only eight miles from the Lime Rock Race Track. You can also visit the Gay-Hoyt House Museum, a typical representation of a Yankee village home which was used by Ebenezer Gay when he moved to Sharon in 1743 and later became a lieutenant in the American Revolution.

Iron Master Motor Inn

The Motor Inn at Iron Masters offers 28 rooms with beds ranging from two doubles to kings. Each room has a separate sitting area, cable television, telephone and coffee maker. Rollaway beds and mini bars are available. There is a complimentary continental breakfast every morning. The inn offers special packages such as the ski and stay package which includes two nights at the inn, breakfast, and lift tickets for the Catamount or Butternut ski areas. Children under 12 stay free and pets are permitted in certain rooms. The inn is convenient to the Housatonic State Park where you can go rafting and tubing. You can visit the Salisbury Cannon Museum to learn how the army used the local ore of Ore Hill and the Salisbury Furnace to build cannons during the Revolutionary War.

Hitching Post Country Motel

The Hitching Post Motel is conveniently located on Route 7. The motel offers rooms with microwaves, refrigerators, televisions, phones and individually-controlled air conditioning. You can visit Kent Falls State Park and view the waterfalls or the Macedonia State Park, an Indian reservation that offers fishing, hiking and cross-country skiing on elevations up to 1400 feet. Swimming and boating are options at Lake Wononscopomuc which is the deepest lake in Connecticut. You can also hike along the Appalachian Trail which passes nearby.
