Hotels in Termez, Uzbekistan
Termez is a large city in the southern region of Uzbekistan, near the Afghan border. It was given its name by the Greeks, who came here with Alexander the Great. The name "Termez" means "hot" or "hot place" in the Greek language; as such, it is Uzbekistan's warmest destination. While the city primarily attracts history and culture buffs, with its extensive architecture and monuments dating back to the 12th century, the city's riverside positioning makes it a prime destination for lovers of urban walks and exploration. The city boasts a population of approximately 140,404 inhabitants. In recent years, it has emerged as a military center; during the Afghanistan War of 1979-1980, over 100,000 Soviet troops were stationed in Termez. Currently, Dutch and German forces working with the ISAF in Afghanistan use Termez's air base.
