Bentsen-Rio Grand Valley State Park

There are 100 campsites available inside Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. Sites 3 through 36 offer the best opportunity for coming across exotic birds like the black-bellied whistling duck and the groove-billed ani. The RV sites don't provide as much tree coverage as the tent sites, but do offer paved pull-through parking. When you take a hike through the park, keep an eye out for exotic cats like ocelots and jaguarundi. Recreational activities include hiking, biking, fishing and volleyball. Nearby attractions include Falcon State Park and the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge. Pets are allowed only if they remain leashed.

Chimney Park RV Resort

Chimney Park RV Resort features 276 RV-only sites that each come with a fire ring and a concrete patio. Bring you laptop computer and enjoy the free WiFi offered throughout the park. You can also hook up your boat to the back of your RV because the resort has its own boat deck and ramp. The Rio Grande provides opportunities for fishing, swimming and rafting. On-site activities include a Jacuzzi spa, swimming pool, billiards room and shuffleboard. If you play the guitar you might consider bringing it along because the resort is home to jam sessions and variety shows. Chimney Park caters to seniors, however, so younger RV-ers may want to consider staying elsewhere.

Canyon Lake RV Resort

Take a dive into the pool shaped like the state of Texas when you stay at the Canyon Lake RV Resort. Pack your best fishing gear to take full advantage of the resort's private 20 acre lake, or just enjoy the swim out to the island and the gazebo. Use your own bike or rent one on-site to take part in the bicycle club's trip to Mexico and South Padre Island. This is another park where you can join in a music jam, and there is also an exercise room, hot tub spa and a woodworking shop. Canyon Lake provides 419 sites with full hook-ups. The park is close by the World Birding Center at Bentsen-Rio Grande State Park and the National Wildlife Refuge is less than 30 minutes away.
