Currant Ridge Cabins in McCarthy, Alaska

Currant Ridge Cabins in McCarthy, Alaska
Currant Ridge Cabins in McCarthy, Alaska is a family-owned resort that opened in 2005. The six log cabins for guests are spacious yet cozy, and offer all the comforts of home. Pets are welcome, as long as they are kept on a leash while outside. Just be sure to let them know that you are bringing your furry family members with you when you make your reservations.

Amenities

Each cabin offers a full kitchen with a stove, refrigerator, oven, pots, pans, utensils, coffee and tea. Furnishings include a queen sleeper sofa in the living room, easy chair, queen bed in the bedroom and dining table with chairs. The bathroom includes a full-size bathtub and shower, toilet, sink, mirror and complimentary toiletries. Each cabin offers large picture windows and an expansive private deck overlooking the mountains.

A Green Resort

Currant Ridge Cabins is proud to be eco-friendly. All of its electricity is created by a combination of solar panels and a generator, which means uninterrupted electricity for guests even during blizzards. To conserve this energy, however, the cabins do not feature small appliances such as hairdryers, toasters, curling irons and the like. The Shidner family, which owns and operates Currant Ridge Cabins, requests that you respect the need to conserve power and not bring small appliances from home. Since the closest landfill is over 125 miles away, garbage is sorted on site and either burned, used for compost or set aside to be carried away later.

Activities

Guests will never be at a loss for things to do while staying at Currant Ridge Cabins. For a fee, local pilots will bring guests up in their airplanes for something commonly known as "flightseeing"---sightseeing from an airplane. There is also plenty of hiking, glacier climbing, river rafting and fishing in the area. Many tour companies operate in or near McCarthy, so it is relatively easy to find a guide or join a tour. McCarthy is home to Wrangell-St. Elias National Park as well as the Kennecott Mines, so it is a bit of a tourist area during the season.
