Hotels Near Zion Crossroads, Virginia
Zion Crossroads, Va., is a small community between Charlottesville and Richmond. Head west 16 miles to Charlottesville, home of the University of Virginia, and you'll find a college town with historic landscapes leading to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. To the east, 53 miles, lies Richmond, the state capital. Dozens of chain hotels in the Zion Crossroads area service college visitors, but here are three lodging alternatives that will afford a more distinctive visit.

Shenandoah Crossing Resort

About 35 miles from Charlottesville and 80 miles from Richmond, Shenandoah Crossing resort combines the feel of an old country estate with a horse farm. Just 12 miles north of Zion Crossroads, it sits on 1,000 acres of rolling hills that includes a 60-acre lake for fishing and boating. Guests don't need to belong to the Bluegreen Vacation Club to stay in the onsite accommodations ranging from wilderness tents to luxury lodge rooms.

Keswick Hall at Monticello

Of all the Zion Crossroads area hotels, Keswick Hall, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is one of the most luxurious. This resort, just outside of Charlottesville and 10 miles from Zion Crossroads, offers all the amenities of a fancy hotel, including an 18-hole golf course, spa facility, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, saunas, steam room, two full restaurants, bicycles and fishing gear, but it looks like an old, elegant country manor. Nature trails wind throughout the 600-acre property. Each room is furnished in its own particular theme. China, vintage prints and antique furniture add to the ambiance.

The Mayhurst Inn

Head 21 miles north from Zion Crossroads and you'll find The Mayhurst Inn, tucked into the mountains of Orange, Va., and promising plenty of Southern charm. Surrounded by manicured lawns and grand old trees, the Inn is a Victorian mansion built in 1859 and boasts an oval spiral staircase that goes up four flights. Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson were said to have slept at Mayhurst. Confederate troops pitched their tents during the winter of 1863. The rooms at the Inn now all have fireplaces and whirlpool tubs, along with high-speed Wi-Fi. Its location makes it easy for guests to drive to six Civil War battlefields, 10 wineries, two museums, three presidential homes (Montpelier, Monticello and Ashlawn) and four golf courses. Horseback riding, skydiving. fishing, hot air ballooning (right on the property) and hiking are also nearby. Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park is only 30 minutes away.
