About 30 miles North from Kenora, Minaki is a resort town on the Winnepeg River in Sunset County, Ontario. The town is situated among numerous lakes, islands and rivers that offer excellent fishing of walleye, bass, muskie and northern pike. These waterways also offer excellent wilderness canoeing in the provincial parks of Quetico, Woodland Caribou and Wabakimi. Trails are also in abundance and common outdoor activities include biking, rock climbing, kayaking and cross-country skiing.

Minaki Yurt Adventures

Club Minaki, a local not-for-profit organization, maintains a trail system for hiking, biking and skiing. As part of its complex, visitors can stay in five yurts and a teepee it maintains on the grounds. All units include sleeping room for parties of two to six, kitchen area, pellet or wood-burning stove and outhouse. For guests in search of a little more pampering, the organization also has a two-unit bed-and-breakfast yurt with indoor plumbing, fireplace and a dining area.

Big North Lodge & Outposts

Located on the mainland at Gun Lake, the family-operated Big North Lodge offers "upscale" accommodations and excellent fishing packages (from May to October). The establishment has a cedar main lodge and six cottages along the shoreline. All units have propane or electric heat, electricity, hot and cold running water, and private bathroom. The main lodge also includes pool room, guest lounge and dining room with a full dinner menu. Fishing outposts are also available on Roger Lake and Maynard Lake. Reservations are required.

Barber's Resort

Barber's Resort is a family-operated establishment with nine lakefront cabins on a 30-acre property with 1800 feet of shoreline. Cabins range from two to four bedrooms and all have refrigerators, microwaves, and cable television. Each unit also has a deck, BBQ grill, and private boat dock. The five main area lakes (Gun, Big Sand, Little Sand, Pistol, and Roughrock) and many smaller fishing holes are a short boat ride from the resort through the local system of rivers. Many smaller fishing holes are also nearby. The resort also operates a fly-in outpost camp on Conifer Lake.

Birch Island Resort

Originally a private summer home of a 1920s industrialist, the Birch Island Resort is a small, quiet establishment located on a private island on Gun Lake. The establishment has 14 private bedrooms with daily maid service. The main lodge also features a cozy sitting room and large outside deck. The dining room offers a full bar menu and a high-quality variety of steaks and chops. Fisherman packages are available.
