In 1710, the first white settlers arrived in the area known today as Chatham, New York. Settlers throughout the years have been attracted to the area by the fertile soil and rich growing climate. Chatham lies in Colombia County New York, and is part of the northern Hudson River Valley. Today, Chatham is a quiet little village, with access to the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and with close proximity to the Catskill Mountains. Year round outdoor activities abound near Chatham. Hiking, snowshoeing, and canoeing are a few of the activities to be found.

The Inn at Silver Maple Farm

The Inn at Silver Maple Farm sits on 10 acres in the Berkshire foothills. The inn is styled after the region's Shaker influences, yet has many modern amenities. There are 11 guest rooms, all with air-conditioning and private bathrooms. The suites have large soaking tubs. The rooms have down comforters, hand painted murals and open views of the gardens or hillsides.

A breakfast buffet is served daily and includes homemade granola, authentic NY bagels, local made yogurt and a daily hot dish like lemon ricotta pancakes. Wireless Internet is available. Take some time to drive to the Hudson River Islands State Park, located approximately 16 miles west of Chatham. Canoeing along the Hudson River brings you close to the many islands within the river system. Many of these islands are home to rare and endangered plant and animal species.

Spencertown Cottages

Spencertown Cottages are vacation rentals with a bed and breakfast ambience. Spencertown Cottages offer nightly, weekly or monthly rentals and can be used for family adventures, weddings, retreats or for out of town guests.

Two cottages are offered. The White Cottage has two bedrooms, one bathroom, living room, dining room and kitchen. It is 1,500 square feet. The Red Cottage is 1,700 square feet, and has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, open kitchen and living room and a four season porch.

For a great day long trip or even an overnight backpacking trip, the Catskill Forest Preserve, approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes away, provide miles of hiking. The Catskill Forest Preserve contains 98 peaks more than 3,000 feet high. These peaks are great for hiking, and getting amazing views of the Catskill Mountains.

Chatham Travel Lodge

The offers 12 rooms. Each room has one or two queen size beds, full bathrooms, cable television and individual heating and air conditioning. Each room has a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. One of the lodge's features is its large deck with views of the Colombia County hills. Nearby are skiing, horseback riding, museums, antique shops and Shaker villages. The Colombia Land Conservancy, located in Catham, offers year round outdoor recreational opportunities. "Spur of the Moment" snowshoe treks happen throughout the winter.
