Edwardsville is a city of 24,000 residents in southwestern Illinois near the Missouri border. Although the city is only minutes from St. Louis, Edwardsville still offers plenty of opportunity for outdoor recreation. Bikers in particular will enjoy the 85 miles of paved scenic trails while hikers can explore the 46-acre Watershed Nature Center. After a day of exploring, visitors can relax and enjoy a meal at one of the local sushi restaurants.

Nori Sushi and Japanese Grill

Offering a wide variety of both sashimi and nigiri sushi, Nori Sushi serves authentic and moderately priced Japanese cuisine in downtown Edwardsville. Diners will not be overwhelmed by pseudo-Asian decor or music; the dining area is simple but very clean. Nori nigiri selections include yellowtail, octopus, squid and sea urchin while roll options range from the familiar California roll to the eel or salmon skin roll. In addition to the sushi, Nori offers a dinner menu, including bento combinations, Udon and Soba noodle dishes and tempura. Diners also often enjoy a dish of red bean or green tea ice cream for dessert. Nori is open Monday through Saturday for lunch and daily for dinner.

Wasabi Sushi Bar

Since opening in 2003, this award-winning sushi bar has been offering diners the freshest sushi and Japanese cuisine at reasonable prices in an inviting and peaceful atmosphere. Wasabi has a full bar, including a variety of hot and cold sake, Japanese beer and specialty martinis. The sushi selection is also constantly changing so there will always be something new to try. Diners begin their meal with seaweed salad or edamame. Afterwards, they can choose from more than 60 kinds of nigiri and rolls or sample a noodle bowl, tempura or a bento box combination. For dessert, there is green tea fried ice cream or mochi ice cream. Wasabi is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday and Sunday for dinner only.

Japanese Garden Restaurant

Located just minutes from Edwardsville, the Japanese Garden chefs will prepare a meal before guests' eyes Teppen-yaki style. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed and the staff is friendly. Diners begin their evening in the cocktail lounge before visiting the sushi bar. Nigiri selections include smoked salmon, squid, octopus, shrimp and smelt roe. Many rolls are also available like cucumber, spicy tuna, eel and caterpillar. Diners can also choose a moderately-priced steak, seafood or vegetable entree served with rice, miso soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, hibachi vegetables and sherbet. The Japanese Garden is open daily for dinner.
