Jones
Jones manages to be both low-key and stylish. This restaurant, part of Philadelphia restaurant lord Steven Starr's holdings, is perfect for a meal or drinks with friends. Its Southern, comfort-food heavy menu offers long-term entree favorites, such as fried chicken and waffles, Thanksgiving dinner and chicken pot pie. These homey dishes are served in an open, warm restaurant with a distinctive seventies feel.

Penang
Philadelphia's China Town is a small area jammed with great restaurants, and it's located right next door to Old City. Penang serves Malaysian food in a distinctive environment. Dishes, such as mango chicken, sit side by side with fare a little more unusual to the American palate, such as sotong goreng, which is marinated fried squid with peppers and onions. The food is high quality, the service is good, and the wait staff will answer any questions diners have about different dishes.

Reading Terminal Market
The Reading Terminal Market is a sampler of some of Philadelphia's best restaurants and stores. The upscale market is full of fishmongers, cheese shops, bakeries, diners and restaurants. It is recommended to try the divine double chocolate cookies from Famous 4th Street Cookie Co., Pad Thai with shrimp from the Little Thai Market, or pick up a great cuppa Joe at Old City Coffee, Inc. Philadelphia's famous cheese steaks also abound. The market is a short walk from Market East Station, the city's regional rail station serving Old City. The market offers something to please nearly everyone, but be aware that on weekdays during lunchtime Philadelphians pack the place to take advantage of the variety of food and great prices.
