Linville Falls, North Carolina, is famous for its waterfalls and the mysterious Brown Mountain Lights. Visitors can take the Erwins View hiking trail from the visitors center to reach Linville Falls. There are several areas along the trail where the Linville River and the upper and lower falls are visible. Erwin View Overlook features a panoramic view of the Linville Gorge. From the western edge of the gorge, visitors may catch a glimpse of the unexplained moving spheres of light along the Brown Mountain ridge. Possible causes of the lights include nitrous vapors and ball lightning. Visitors can also explore the Linville Caverns, which feature an underground river.

Parkview Lodge & Cabins

Parkview Lodge & Cabins is 500 feet south of the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, tucked away on a quiet lane. Surrounded by mountains and trees, the cozy accommodations of Parkview make for an excellent retreat. The cabins feature a full kitchen, two bedrooms, a fireplace, satellite TV, a Jacuzzi and a wraparound deck. The nonsmoking cabins can comfortably accommodate four people. Your hosts provide free breakfast and maid service each day. There is an on-site wine shop that has a selection of fine wines and more than 50 brands of beer. Parkview cabins require a reservation and 24-hour notice is required for cancellation.

Humpback Hollow Cabins

Humpback Hollow Cabins, one-quarter mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, is nestled in the foreground of Humpback Mountain. There are three cabins to choose from: Sunalee, Conner Cottage and Fiddlesticks. The amenities of Sunalee include a dishwasher, washer and dryer and wood-burning fireplace. The 200-year old log cabin has two full baths, a bedroom with accommodations for seven people and a loft. Conner Cottage and Fiddlesticks both feature a gas-burning fireplace, air-conditioning, double sofa sleeper, a porch and a deck. Conner Cottage also has a Jacuzzi, two bedrooms and one bath, while Fiddlesticks has one bedroom and one bath. All three cabins contain a fully equipped kitchen with microwave, charcoal grill and satellite TV.

Cross Creek Log Cabins

Cross Creek Log Cabins is on 28 acres and is within walking distance of the Linville waterfalls. There are six nonsmoking cabins to choose from: Green Hedges, Fishing Bear, Branches, Suncatcher Cottage and Wilson Cottage. Amenities include a full kitchen and bath, gas log fireplace, satellite TV and sleeper sofa. There are furnished decks on each cabin as well. Some cabins have a washer and dryer, grill and campfire area. Pets are allowed for a fee.
