Just east of the Bienville National Forest, Decatur sits in some of the most wooded areas of eastern Mississippi. This part of the state is open to many camping and hiking opportunities. Another trip worth taking from Decatur is to Lake Okatibbee and its neighboring state park. Okatibbee offers 28 miles of shoreland for camping, fishing and boating. There are some hotels and bed and breakfasts in the Decatur area as well.

Days Inn Newton‎ is a low-slung, old-style hotel with exterior doors, but it does offer some modern amenities. Each room is equipped with free cable TV, microwave, mini-fridge and wireless internet. Bed selection for rooms is either a single queen or a pair of double beds. Guests are treated to free continental breakfast each morning. There is an outdoor pool and business center as well. The hotel also has access to many of the local chain restaurants which are along the same block. Newton is just nine miles south of Decatur.

The Thrifty Inn is an affordable place to stay in the Decatur area, nine miles south in Newton. The rooms come with free cable television and web access. Guests are also served a complimentary breakfast each morning. The rooms are simple, with the choice of queen-size beds or a pair of double beds, each at low rates.

Century House Bed and Breakfast

Century House Bed and Breakfast is in a home originally built in 1902. It offers six guest rooms, including two suites. All rooms have their own private bath and are decorated with an antique Southern touch. The beds differ from room to room, with a four-poster, a sleigh bed and a wrought-iron bed. The honeymoon suite offers a queen side bed and a heart-shaped whirlpool tub. Breakfast is served each morning in a common dining room on the ground floor. Century House is located in Meridian, about 30 miles east of Decatur.
