RV Parks in Fairbanks, Alaska

RV Parks in Fairbanks, Alaska
Known as "The Golden Heart of Alaska," Fairbanks is 188 miles south of the Arctic Circle. The city is a land of extremes, with temperatures ranging from 65 degrees Fahrenheit below zero in winter to 90 degrees in summer. The shortest day has three hours of sunlight, while the longest has more than 21 hours. Although Fairbanks is a modern city, easily accessible by road, rail or air, it retains a rugged frontier flair. Winter sports include hockey, skiing and dog sled races. Summer activities include hiking, fishing and eco-tourism. RV travel is common in Alaska, and Fairbanks is home to many campgrounds.

Chena Marina RV Park

If you plan to spend the summer in Fairbanks, Chena Marina RV Park is an excellent choice. The park is at a float plane pond, providing photo opportunities of one of Alaska's most unusual industries. Grassy, pull-through sites are wide and reasonably level. All sites have picnic tables. The park only accepts guests who plan to stay all season.
Free wireless Internet is available throughout the park. Lawn care is provided by park management. Full hookups are available, although water and sewer hookups might not be operational early and late in the season because of weather conditions. When water and sewer are unavailable, park management provides complimentary water delivery and honey wagon service. Clean restrooms and free hot showers are provided.

Ice Park Campground

Located in the heart of Fairbanks, Ice Park Campground is the summer venture of Ice Alaska Inc., a nonprofit arts center that hosts the International Ice Sculpting competition each winter. Sites are an average of 50 feet long, although some sites are 60 feet. Many sites have trees, and the black ice carving backdrops are left up year round for additional shade. Most sites offer 30 amp service.
A large meeting hall is used for activities. Free wireless Internet is available around the office, although the signal does not reach all of the sites. Free Internet computers are available for guest use. Restrooms are clean and free hot showers are included. A coin-operated laundry is provided in the main building. A used book library and exchange is in the meeting hall. Group van trips across the Arctic Circle are available on request.
Rates are significantly lower than those at most nearby RV parks. The park relies heavily on volunteers. If you are willing to help out around the park, your site rate will be discounted accordingly. Free meals might also be provided.
