Indianapolis is the state capital of Indiana and a thriving metropolitan area that extends far in every direction. The west side of the city is home to the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Eagle Creek Park, which is home to a large lake where you can sail, windsurf or fish. It also has plenty of trails for hiking or cross-country skiing. White River State Park is another nearby attraction, which includes an urban canal area for biking and walking. Paddle boats can be rented for use on the canal. After a day of exploring Indianapolis, the city's west side has many restaurants to choose from.

El Meson Mexican Restaurant

El Meson Mexican Restaurant is a small area chain made up of six restaurants, including one on the west side. As you walk in, your eyes will immediately be attracted to all of the bright colors. This cheerful dining atmosphere is sure to serve as a conversation piece for you and your companions. The restaurant serves traditional Mexican cuisine and offers a different lunch special every day. Start your meal with an appetizer of bean dip, cheese dip or tortilla soup. Vegetarians should appreciate the large selection, including six meatless dinner plate options. House specialties include carnitas, Mexican pizza, pollo loco and tacos carne asada. For those who want to enjoy an after-dinner cocktail, try a margarita in one of four flavors.

Mug-N-Bun

Mug-n-Bun has been a mainstay on the west side of Indianapolis since 1960. This location is a perfect spot to consider for those who are completely worn out after a day of hiking. You don't even have to get out of your car. Pull into a parking space, choose from the menu next to you and flip on your lights when you're ready to order. A server will come right to your car. Make sure to try the homemade root beer and take home a gallon to enjoy later. Those wishing to try a Hoosier tradition should consider a grilled or breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. The restaurant also offers burgers, fish or chicken dinners, sandwiches and hot dogs, as well as many side options.

Rick's Cafe Boatyard

Rick's Cafe Boatyard offers panoramic views of Eagle Creek Reservoir from the dining area. More than 100 boat slips are located on the property, making it possible for guests to pull up their boat, walk inside and eat. The atmosphere is upscale, yet casual and one may choose to dine outside on the patio or inside the dining room. Appetizers include baked goat cheese, Parmesan artichoke crab dip, sashimi tuna and Szechuan duck wings. Those who enjoy seafood will enjoy their selection of oysters, shrimp, tuna, sea scallops and Lake Superior whitefish, among others. The restaurant also offers a variety of sandwiches, wood-fired pizza and steak, chicken or pasta dishes.
