The north Georgia area is a special place for those who enjoy the best outdoor adventures. Throughout the seasons, the national forests and mountain ranges are ablaze with wildflowers, powdered with snow and streams brim with bass and trout. Lakes and waterfalls provide a backdrop for hiking trails, swimming, canoeing and kayaking, and whitewater rafting. Laurel Mountain Cabins

Located in the heart of north Georgia and less than 15 miles from the North Carolina border, guests at Laurel Mountain Cabins have a choice of one and two bedroom cabins. Each has fully equipped kitchens, gas or wood burning fireplaces, Jacuzzi, satellite TV, telephone, barbecue grill, porches and rocking chairs with views of streams and mountains in a quiet location only four miles from downtown Hiawassee. Cabins are pet friendly.

Nearby areas of interest include the Alpine city of Helen filled with specialty shops, restaurants, an outdoor flea market and the site of the annual Oktoberfest. A short drive from Helen is Brasstown Bald, the highest mountain in Georgia.

Unicoi State Park offers a 53-acre lake for boating and fishing, eight miles of trails for mountain biking and seven miles of hiking trails.

Fred Hamilton Rhododendron Garden near Lake Chatuge features more than 3,000 plants. Gardens are open to the public daily with free admission.

Serenity Cove Lakefront Cabins

Cabins situated along Lake Chatuge provide guests with convenient opportunities for fishing at the nearby dock or for cruising the lake in a rental pontoon boat. Each of the two bedroom, one bath cabins has a full kitchen, fireplace, cable, central air and heat, outdoor grill and high-speed wireless Internet along with a covered porch overlooking the lake and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Only minutes from Hiawassee, hikers can connect with the Appalachian Trail just a few miles outside the city for an overnight trek to Tray Mountain or to nearby waterfalls such as High Shoals Falls, with a moderate one mile hike.

Several golf courses, bike trails, Brasstown Bald Mountain, and tubing and rafting facilities are in the vicinity of Hiawassee. Scenic Helen and the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds with annual festivals are just minutes away. Less than an hour's drive away in the city of Blue Ridge, the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad Train tours the mountain and lake areas with short stops along the way.

Enota Mountain Retreat

Guests can choose from one-room cabins or one- and two-bedroom cabins situated within the million plus acres of the Chattahoochee National Forest, all with views of streams and waterfalls. Cabins are fully equipped with gas or wood burning fireplaces, air conditioning, firepits and grills. Cabins are pet friendly.

Enota is a little over a mile to the Appalachian Trail along logging trails on the property. Along the way, hikers will pass four waterfalls. A short driving distance from Enota, hikers can explore Dukes Creek, Raven Creek and Anna Ruby falls along with numerous hiking trails of varying distances.
