Haddam, Connecticut, is a small historic town made up of five villages within the town itself: Higganum, Tylerville, Shailerville, Hidden Lake and Haddam Neck. Each village has colonial-era architecture. Local Chapmans Pond Nature Preserve offers outdoor enthusiasts more than 600 acres of trails that wind beside brooks, through upland forests and along a tide pool. It is a popular area to canoe and watch wildlife. The Devils Hopyard State Park offers fishing, picnicking, hiking, camping and birding.

The Copper Beech Inn is located 12 miles from downtown Haddam. The inn offers lavish accommodations at an affordable price. The main house was built in the 1880s. There are two on-site restaurants, one that serves French cuisine and one that serves more traditional food choices. The restaurants also offer a 350-bottle wine cellar.
