Parkland is home to Pacific Lutheran University and is located near McChord Air Force Base and Fort Lewis. An unincorporated area south of Tacoma, Washington, Parkland provides convenient access to recreational activities in Tacoma such as Point Defiance Park, nearby Spanaway Lake and Brookdale Gold Club, as well as Mount Rainier National Park, located approximately 64 miles to the southeast. The Parkland area offers a variety of hotels to easily accommodate visitors' needs.

The Red Lion offers 119 guest rooms and suites with views of Mount Rainier, complimentary breakfast, and an indoor pool and hot tub. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites

The Holiday Inn Express was renovated in 2006 and offers 80 guest rooms on four floors, with an interior hallway. Thirty-eight of these rooms are suites. Complimentary services include parking, wireless access, 24-hour fitness center, computer use and Express Start breakfast bar each morning. An indoor pool, sauna, whirlpool, guest laundry and business services also are available to guests. Guest rooms feature cable television, complimentary dinner snacks, newspaper delivery, microwave, refrigerator, in-room ice maker and coffee maker. Suites also include a sofa bed, whirlpool tub and flat-screen TV. Restaurants near the Holiday Inn offer pizza, seafood, Italian, Japanese and Mexican cuisine. Parkland is easily accessed from the Holiday Inn, and downtown Tacoma, Fort Lewis and Point Defiance Park are all within five miles.

De Voe Mansion Bed & Breakfast

De Voe Mansion is located seven blocks south of Pacific Lutheran University, toward the southern border of the Parkland area near Brookdale Golf Club. De Voe Mansion was built in 1911, is listed on the National Historic Register and resides on one and a half acres of property. Four guest rooms are available: Emma's Room, the original master bedroom; Susan's Room with a soaking tub; Carrie's Room with a private detached bath; and Henry's Room with a view of the grounds and historic bedroom furniture. Breakfast includes coffee served outside each doorway in the morning, followed by a multi-course meal including fruit, pastries, an entrée and side dish. Rates start at $115 per night in 2010.
