Harlan County, Kentucky is home to the Black Mountain Recreational Park, one of the top off-road trail parks in the United States. Open year-round, the park offers nearly 7,000 acres with over 200 miles of marked and rated trails for ATVs, mountain bikes and other off-road vehicles. A permit is required for each vehicle using the property and permits are available for daily, monthly or yearly use. Biking, horseback riding and hiking are also available at nearby Little Shepherd Trail in the Kentenia State Forest and at the Hensley Settlement.

Black Mountain Cabins

Located less than one mile from Black Mountain Recreational Park, Black Mountain Cabins features fully furnished cabins in two sizes. The 12-by-20-foot cabin sleeps four and includes a television, mini sink, mini refrigerator and a full bathroom. The 20-by-20-foot cabin sleeps eight and includes a television, full-size refrigerator, sink and full bathroom along with a kitchen table and chairs. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the ATV trails only two minutes away without ever putting their off-road vehicle back on the trailer.

Harlan County Campground & RV Park

Located at the Putney Trailhead, this facility offers off-roaders easy access to the Black Mountain Recreational Park. Furnished cabins are available in a variety of sizes. The bunkhouse offers sleeping quarters with no bathroom. Guests can use the campground's public bathrooms and showers. Small cabins sleep up to four comfortably while larger cabins are available to accommodate up to eight guests. Both of these sizes offer private baths. All cabins feature heating and cooling, hotplates and microwaves, refrigerators, coffee makers, satellite TV and outdoor charcoal grills.

Mount Aire Motel

This beautiful log cabin style motel is conveniently located to the Black Mountain Recreational Park and sells park permits for off-road trail enthusiasts. Guest rooms are available with king-size beds, single full-size beds or double full-size beds. All rooms have private baths while some rooms are available with kitchenettes. Amenities include cable TV with HBO, free high-speed internet, public laundry facilities and exercise equipment. Discounts available for ATV and 4-by-4 owners and pets are welcome, but require a nominal cleaning charge.
