Cozy Country Inn
Near the Super 8, on the other side of Route 15, sits the Cozy Country Inn. The Cozy Restaurant inside the inn is the oldest established restaurant in Maryland still operated by the founding family. It costs more than the Super 8, but the inn lives up to its name by offering quaint rooms with excellent service. Plus, each room includes a coffee maker, mini fridge, hairdryer and clock radio. With only 21 units, including five cottages, booking well ahead of your travel is recommended.

Rambler Motel
Just north of Thurmont, off of Route 15, is the Rambler Motel. The Rambler is a small, family-run motel with basic rooms that feature cable TV. The Rambler does not offer the consistent if sparse room decorations that you can expect from a chain establishment. The fixtures may not match; but the rooms are clean and everything works. The rooms are also reasonably priced. Make sure you bring all the amenities you need. It is located next to a 24-hour gas station. The Rambler changed management in 2007, when it was also remodeled. Book your room over the phone. The Rambler has no website.
